iStockphoto is an online, royalty free, international microstock photography provider operating with the micropayment business model.
The company was founded by Bruce Livingstone in 2000, and was originally a free stock imagery website. On February 9, 2006 iStockphoto was acquired by Getty Images for $50 million.
iStockphoto offers millions of files, millions of members and tens of thousands of contributing artists.
Contributions
iStockphoto made it easy and inexpensive to buy professional stock images and videos for millions of bloggers and small business webmasters. Before iStockphoto, people often had to spend hundreds or thousands on professional photography. This approach radically transformed the economics of Web publishing via blogs and the creation of websites, putting it within reach of do-it-yourselfers.
