Michael is the President and CEO of SurePayroll. In that role he is responsible for the overall business model development, strategic planning, and day-to-day operations of the company.
Previously with McKinsey and Company, where he was a founder and leader in the Service Operations Practice, he joined SurePayroll in 2000. Prior to receiving his MBA from the Harvard Business School, Michael worked in various sales positions at IBM. He holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Northwestern.

Alter co-founded SurePayroll in 2000, and implemented the SurePayroll Scorecard, a source of useful data about small business hiring. In February 2011, SurePayroll was acquired by Paychex, Inc.
Alter led his company to productize the payroll process for small businesses, turning it into an easy-to-use service that streamlines paying employees and complying with employment-related tax laws and regulations in the 50 states. SurePayroll has become a leader in payroll processing for the small business market, with 35,000 small business customers.
