Hewitt launched Liberty Tax in Canada when he and other investors purchased a Canadian tax company in 1997, and then expanded into the United States with five offices operating in the 1998 tax season. Hewitt has helped Liberty Tax grow to 3,800 Liberty Tax offices in the United States and Canada today.
Accounting Today has named Hewitt one of the Top 100 most influential persons in the tax industry--ten times. The International Franchise Association has honored John Hewitt as Entrepreneur of the Year. He is personally committed to fighting hunger on a global basis, and co-founded Stop Hunger Now, an international hunger relief organization in 1998. He started Run for Hunger International in 2010.
During his tenure in the franchise industry, Hewitt has recruited over 3,000 franchisees while CEO at Liberty Tax and Jackson Hewitt. Hewitt remains committed to keeping the franchise opportunity affordable and attainable. In January 2011, Entrepreneur magazine ranked Liberty Tax Service #1 of the tax franchises on the Entrepreneur “Franchise 500.” Liberty Tax is a member of the IFA, and its MinorityFran and VetFran programs.
