Michelle Ketterman

Nominated for the 2012 Small Business Influencer Awards in:

A 1996 robbery taught Michelle Ketterman that without a home inventory you are victimized twice: once by the event, and then by not having a list and proof of possessions. They had great insurance and would have been reimbursed but the stress of the robbery caused the Kettermans to leave valuable and rarely used items off the claim form. After that, Michelle began keeping a current inventory. Seeing her inventory and discouraged by the time and effort it took, people asked Michelle to compile theirs. Word spread that what others could not do in months, she did easily in a few hours…thus began The Inventory Experts; since then Michelle has performed hundreds of inventories. Michelle provides an honest and needed service at fair prices and enjoys protecting her clients. She fiercely protects the profession and other ethical professionals. She selflessly donates a good percent of her time promoting the profession, teaching How-To classes, and helping others build a strong businesses.

  • The Inventory Institute (founder)
  • Toastmasters International (Public Relations Officer
  • District 50 2011-2012)

"Frustrated by layers of false ads and deception as well as fake accolades, credentials, and awards by both HIP service and product providers and many questionable HIPs, Michelle formed The Inventory Institute (TII) in 2009; a national organization that verifies HIP insurance, credentials, and practices and propels the industry forward ethically. Michelle sponsored the first HIP conference and is committed to protecting ethical HIPs and advancing the industry on a solid reputation. Michelle launched the first professional certification program, wrote 99% of industry resources, has the only industry magazine ( and radio show (Home Inventory Panel), and gives free monthly trainings to name a few. She often ‘scholarships’ TII membership dues and says that lack of start up funds should not keep an ethical HIP from their dreams. She often gives away free book copies, coaching, and telesummit participation as a way to ‘even the scales’ for the honest and upstanding HIP.
