Carolyn Elefant is a practicing solo attorney at the Law Offices of Carolyn Elefant. She also is an evangelist for lawyers who remain independent of large firms and who start their own law firms. She provides information through her blog for solo law practitioners, called MyShingle.com. She is the author of a book on starting your own firm called, "Solo by Choice."

"By starting my own law firm, I made partner before I turned thirty and became a business owner long before the dotcom boom of the late '90s made entrepreneurship at once desirable and virtually mainstream. I was also one of the first law firms to recognize and harness the power of the Internet: my firm has had an email account since 1994 and with the upload of a law firm website (which I hand-coded myself) in 1995, I joined the the first generation of law firms on-line and in 2002, I was part of the first generation of lawyer-bloggers."
Contributions
As the author of a long-standing blog and a book "Solo by Choice", Carolyn has been an inspiration to other attorneys who choose to be solo practitioners (and by extension, are themselves small business owners who often in turn serve other small businesses). By providing guidance on how to run a solo law practice, she has impacted many many thousands of small businesses in the legal field and outside of the legal field.
