2012 Influencer Awards Gala
We had an amazing time at the 2012 Small Business Influencer Awards Gala in New York City!
Our event was held in conjunction with the New York XPO event, and drew more than 200 people to our Gala on October 17, 2012, at the Javits Center. There, attendees networked and celebrated our 2012 Small Business Influencer Champions. Our Community Choice and Honorable Mentions were also honored. We saw Champions, supporters and friends from all over the United States and Canada.
Each of the Top 100 Influencer Champions and the Honorable Mentions was invited to attend the Awards ceremony, and more than half of the Top 100 Champions attended. The event was also open to their staff, media, friends, supporters and anyone in the industry who wished to celebrate with them.
Getting to Know You
The event commenced at 5:30 pm with networking and refreshments. Attendees made new contacts and reconnected with old ones. Many of us knew each other online, but had never met in real life!
Honoring Our Influencers
The Awards ceremony began an hour later. We'd be remiss if we didn't mention the amazing tap dancing group that energized the audience! Joshua Johnson, a budding entrepreneur known for tapdancing on subways to pay for college — and featured in the New York Times, Huffington Post, and on the Ellen Show — kicked off the Awards segment with a group performance not soon to be forgotten.
The audience was also treated to a special video spoof just for the Awards by JJ Ramberg of MSNBC from the set of her popular show, “Your Business.”
Each Influencer Champion was presented a crystal trophy by Influencer co-founders Ramon Ray and Anita Campbell as well as Bryan Lee from BlackBerry (sponsor). Each award recipient was invited say a few words to the crowd.
A few of the notable Small Business Influencers honored at the Gala include: Inc. Magazine contributor Norm Brodsky; author Carol Roth; Grant Wickes of Wasp Barcode Technologies; Dina Dwyer Owens, CEO of The Dwyer Group; Ingrid Vanderveldt, Dell’s Entrepreneur in Residence; Scott Gerber, Founder of the Young Entrepreneur Council; and representatives from Alibaba, Adobe, Sage and other well-known names.
Fabulous Speakers and Prizes to Boot
Larry Janesky, founder of Basement Systems, Inc., spoke to the audience about his “highest calling,” and we heard from several of our sponsors during the Fireside Chats segment.
Each of the Champions received a BlackBerry messenger Powerbag from the title sponsor, BlackBerry.
Thanks to professional photographer Jason Gardner, we captured some of the best moments at the Gala. Please take a moment to scroll through the photos above.
Will We See You This Year?
The attendees of the 2012 Small Business Influencer Gala had the opportunity to meet other small business owners, as well as experts, journalists, and bloggers in the industry. It’s a wonderful opportunity to network and learn. We hope you’ll join us for the 2013 Small Business Influencer Gala on October 17, 2013 in New York City.
